Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organization that advances children’s rights and equality for girls. We work together with children, young people and our supporters and partners to tackle the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

Project background
The Youth Online Safety project offers real time solutions to practical problems that are being experienced by adolescent girls and boys within the ages of 15-24 years. The project aims to develop a short course on ‘Online Safety’ aimed at capacitating young people with knowledge and guidance on online safety practices. Staff within Plan International Zimbabwe (PIZ) and outside the organization can have access to this short course. The online course will also have a virtual support platform, which allows young people to ask for more information on online safety and other issues that affect young people. Offline courses will also be offered so as to address challenges related to internet connectivity. The project will be located in Kwekwe District targeting 3, 450 adolescents.

Plan International Zimbabwe invites bids for the services of a consultant to conduct the Development of a Mobile Web Application for adolescent girls and boys Online Safety learning.



Duties And Responsibilities


Specifically, the objectives for the consultant are to
Create a simple, safe and interesting Mobile Web Application for use by the youth. The Mobile Web Application should provide Self-Paced Courses that offer access to feedback, chat-board and Question and Answers. The application content should also be downloadable and accessible offline; Consult with the PIZ staff focal-points, in order to discuss the overall purpose for the Mobile Application; Consult with the PIZ staff focal-points during key benchmark stages of the Application’s development and incorporate feedback as needed; Conduct all technical work required for the development of the mobile application (coding, software development, etc.), contacting PIZ focal points to gather required data for input; Periodically consult with the PIZ staff as the application is tested in the field, integrated feedback as needed

Qualifications And Experience


The consultant / consulting firm must have a varied mix of skills and competencies and they must have undertaken similar works in Zimbabwe in the last four years. The Consultant should have education qualifications in IT-related studies, with at least a minimum of 3 years of verifiable progressive experience of working in the development of mobile applications. Priority will be given to the application development firms with experience working for / with Non-Governmental Organizations and Public Sector initiatives. The consultant should also have knowledge and experience with children’s rights, young women and youth issues, policies and services’ systems in Zimbabwe.
