The global pandemic has increased the need for businesses to connect digitally with customers, and today, the communication platform launched a variety of tools to help businesses easily reach to their customers.

WhatsApp Business, the instant messaging app’s business platform introduced QR code scans and catalog sharing feature as a way to increase the usage of the app on businesses.

The facebook-owned company is in a bid to increase its monthly active users which are currently at 50 million – highest increase as compared to 1 million last year.

A QR Code is a machine-readable label containing information about an item it is attached to.

WhatsApp plans to introduce the QR Code scanning as a way for businesses for customers to easily get to know about the company, its address, its contact details, the product being sold and all the needed information – without having to reach out physically to such a business.

The introduction of the QR Code is a huge boost for both businesses and customers likewise.

This means people will have to deal away with manual contact sharing and scan codes to reach out to a business.

Now to inquire about a product, or ask questions, instead of manually entering a business phone number, one can just scan a QR Code from a receipt, an advert or any display in order to connect with the company on WhatsApp.

Meanwhile, in other new developments made today, the business app has introduced a new sharing feature on the Catalog platform it introduced last November.

WhatsApp Business Catalog was introduced to offer businesses an easy way of sharing products/items to clients. But these could not be shared from one person to another – it could only be developed and shared to one contact or group.

Now product catalog and individual items can be shared on websites, Facebook, Instagram and elsewhere. And if people want to share a catalog or item they find with friends or family, they can simply copy the link and send it on WhatsApp or other places as well.

To share your catalog in an individual or group chat;
1. Open a chat in the WhatsApp Business app.
2. Tap the attachment icon next to the text field.
3. Then, tap Catalog.
4. Tap Send all items at the top.
